House of Miracles

A Story-telling Space

“The story of Christ demands from us, and repays, not only a religious and historical but also an imaginative response. It is directed to the child, the poet, and the savage in us as well as to the conscience and to the intellect. One of its functions is to break down dividing walls” (C.S. Lewis).

PURPOSE

The House of Miracles project seeks to transform an underutilized upstairs space in Wellspring’s Annex building into an imaginative environment based on C.S. Lewis’ timeless Chronicles of Narnia.

Years ago, these rooms were known as Cooper’s Clubhouse and used to host puppet shows about the Gospel. Today, the rooms are unused and in need of renovation. The project team plans to revive the space and create immersive sets from Chronicles of Narnia. The vision builds upon work that God previously performed in the space and honors the role imagination, playfulness, and storytelling play in capturing our hearts and attention.

The newly designed, Narnia-themed House of Miracles will provide a learning space, an event space, and a storytelling space to host various interactive, creative activities for both the Wellspring community and the Peninsula at large. Plans include an annual musical experience based on The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, monthly PJ parties in Narnia, Loving the Scripture workshops, and a variety of other gatherings for children as well as youth and adults.

PROJECT PHASES

The project will be accomplished in two phases:

  • Place-Making (January 2023 - January 2024)

    • Renovate: replace flooring, paint walls, repair ceiling tiles, frame walls, replace doors, remove old lighting and structures, etc.

    • Set Design & Construction: design and build the scenes/sets

  • Production (July 2023 - March 2024)

    • Install Audio/Visual to support productions: General lighting, set-specific lighting, audio system, multimedia controls, projector, and sound booth.

    • Acquire Stage Equipment: Curtain system, backdrop, costumes, props, miscellaneous production supplies.
